Countdown to Doomsday XXVc
Thinkerers are RAM bioengineered lemurs and gibbons designed specifically to be able to work in small, cramped areas such as the tunnels, ducts, and hatchways in space stations, asteroid colonies, and rockets. Unlike other gennies, these were primates altered with human genes rather than the other way around. With near human intelligence, they are not considered a major threat and are often ignored, earning them a second citizen status even among other gennies.
They were designed by RAM to be little more than cheap animated tools, however they have become a staple in the solar system and are the quite common. Through crossing with small anthropoid species, they have long, sensitive finger and a longer reach then normal humans. In addition, as an unforeseen but pleasant byproduct of the gene-manipulation process, Tinkers have a unique combination of curiosity and technical skill, giving them an almost uncanny ability to fix, modify, and build things. As a result, they are very good with technology, but they are restricted only to careers like engineers and medics as their other problem solving skills tend to be limited. Much like the primates they came from, Tinkerers have a packrat nature makes them reluctant to throw anything out; it might be “useful” later.
Physically, Tinkerers stand around three feet tall with large dextrous hands and feet. Rarely do they ever wear clothes to cover their hairy little bodies. While they have a powerful grip that rivals even cybernetic limbs, at two or three feet in height, most of them have problems living up to the “tough guy” image of the engineering fraternity.
Tinkerers have no genitalia as they cannot produce by themselves. Often they carry a brand name tattoo somewhere on their person.
